Jackfruit Ceremony is both an attempt at recreating a holy, ritualistic activity out of a fragment that nature gives us; as well as an ultimate celebration of existence, multiversal forces, full moon, earth, togetherness, prosperity, light and love.

Jackfruit Ceremony investigates what it means to create a cultic ceremony out of an uncommon, natural, edible object in this age of massive digital reproduction of postmodern arts. Why do ones hold a ceremony even?

Jackfruit Ceremony may implicitly also correlate to contemporary ecologic crisis that originate from politic-economic issues:

How many individuals can be fed with a single jackfruit?

How does it feel when women, and only those who identify themselves as women, have the power to actively hold a ceremonial celebration?

Can one sacrifice a jackfruit instead of an animal, and do so with only bare hands in multitude?

We met with the artist Coco Villareal at the Tiyatro Medresesi within the scope of the ongoing Butoh training camp. Since he is already in Turkey for this six-week intensive training process, we had a wish to introduce him to the audiences here. After a very busy, exciting and beautiful week, he enthusiastically participated in our desire to have a movement camp/retreat together. We are excited to share this unique artform by Coco in Turkey with you all...

Coco Villareal is originally from Mexico and currently resides in a rural village in Andalusia, Spain, with his students and friends on his own small but independent theater space. At the same time, he is frequently invited to different parts of the world and gives workshops, performances and talks, as he does now.

Practicing Capoeira with Brazilian Mestre Kiura in Stockholm for about five years, Emin Durak created the movement system Spiral Sphinx, which he defines as a Somatic Continuity Framework, inspired by the contemporary dance culture he was in and the different improvisation practices he took part. Then he founded the company Sphinx Dance to publish his artistic works.

Larvae takes its base from a journey on the holy Sri Lankan mountains where Buddha is told to have climbed. Due to the pandemic, having to spend months in a mountain house made one experience a set of natural processes; seeing how the impermanence permeates the entire cosmos.

The movements of a maturing bug trying to find their way into light somehow have newly formed wings but do not yet know how to operate. A journey into the light keeps being deteriorated by continuously hitting the \"white wall\" humans made. Trying to let the drive of the evolutionary instinct proceed its way through, the flying cockroaches persist to hit on the walls, repeatedly so.

Whilst they are only in search of trying to proceed with flying...

Concept

The relationship of the passive manifestation of the world perceived by the subject, depending on the concept of time, of the sensible, and the subject’s attachment to the outside world, gaining a symmetrical shape with the active perception, revealing the instinct of the subject to repeat this experience consciously or unconsciously. This concept, which emerges with the repetition of habits, gains another dimension with the spontaneous formation of difference. Here, a consciously made phenomenological experience reveals a synthesis asymmetrically, breaking away from the instinct of repeating itself in the same way; which occurs only with the manifestation of a repetitive labor that the subject integrates with love.

Practical Info

At Asimetrik, every participant is also an active organizer contributing with their work of love. It is a secluded camp full of movement & arts where all participants are active organizers at the same time. We will start with the last new moon of autumn and only those who do their work with love will be invited to participate. Contribution fee will be given as a contribution to the facility and will be allocated to meet basic expenses such as food and has been kept as appropriate as possible to facilitate participation.

We will be the only ones in our event, which will be located in one of the magnificent bays of Faralya, right at the rocky beach, and maybe most of us will swim together for the last time in 2021… We would like to thank Rocas Roja for opening up space for us.

Labor is Love

The Labor is Love formation is developed to facilitate the interaction of artists with each other in a network of solidarity and resources, and to be economically independent as much as possible. It is the first time a meeting is held in Turkey. By organizing various events that have started in Sweden before from 2018; how to achieve our future desires, dreams and entitlements in the current economic order more sustainably and easily will be explored, and a space and communication channel will be opened so that we are equipped to present the works of ours to each other all together.

Our areas of interest include choreography, dance, theatre, yoga, tai chi, massage, capoeira, jewelry design, crafts such as knitted ceramics and contemporary art. Then there are also different topics such as alternative currencies, blockchain, astrology, women’s/men’s circles, universal basic income, artificial intelligence, digital networks etc. For those who do their work with love, a space will be opened to share their works and support will be provided. In this way, we hope that we will all be informed and inspired by each other’s art; and we hope that this culture will continue to spread and multiply like a “contagious disease”. The creation of a culture full of labor with love that will shed light on new generations will be expressed collectively, and we believe that these gatherings will recur in various mediums, times and frequencies.

Frame

We present a frame with the intention to make it easier for contributors to calibrate their works that all come from different backgrounds. We provide you with full freedom to decide your content and medium, but we only wish that your connection to your work consists of these three important elements:

You love doing that work. You have your affection with it.,
Such temporal justifications as “success” and “failure” would not prevent you from practicing that work, or, better, they would render irrelevant for your curiosity and desire to practice it,
Your work is either reflective, analytical, critical, spiritual in its being or in some way for the benefit of a society you choose to relate to.

Inspired primarily from Capoeira and its historical evolution, Spiral Sphinx is a framework for movement improvisations. Pursued as a workshop that continue with certain instructions and exercises given to its participants, it is practiced with a set of special methods, related to geometry and mathematics of the body.

Within Spiral Sphinx, participants explore the boundaries that they often consent to move within during daily quotidian movements - such as actively or passively being choreographed by interior settings and furniture at any given space. They are expected to become aware and re-articulate default choreography executed by modernist-industrialist axiom that recur in varying forms, guided by a serious of instructions of collapse and expand. Then the process continues by trying to create new algebraic formulations that lead us to move in unprecedented rhythms as opposed to movements that occur within such determinate external barriers.

Seeing body as a radically autonomous assemblage and everything it does as an impact of an algebraically complex algorithm, one could be curious to see how a set of simple & complex algebraic movement codes can regenerate endless possibilities of complex curves in movement. In Spiral Sphinx, movements are not externally predefined by a space limiting an organism that it contains. In contrast, the organism is to redefine the space by its movement patterns via oscillating rhythms.

Concept

Antibodies is about the impulsity of body to what appears to be as external factors of threat, stimuli, impulse. We’d like to research the norms of resistance, stimuli, triggery, immune, quarrel, relation and somatic actions; to/of/from one another. It concerns movements in collective spirit but in distinct and individual inspiration. It relates to actions that are seemingly spontaneous; but indeed are patterns of instincts developed in convolution of evolutionary processes.

Antibodies naturally relate to the protective proteins produced by immune systems of organisms in order to eliminate potentially harmful antigens like some bacteria and virus, from the host organism they live in or they are part of. Nevertheless this project does certainly not limit itself with the science behind this concept. Therefore welcomes and opens space for more subjective analysis and perspectives upon the concept of “Antibodies” and its diverse, inter-subjective meanings.

Antibodies is pursued in collaboration with The Room Dalyan. Thanks to Sevda and Cem for opening space and believing in this!

In Tribute to Mika Vainio

This project is inspired by, and in tribute to Mika Vainio and his music. Therefore it will be pursued with a lot of his compositions and the inspiration they will provide. Thank you Mika and rest in peace!
